Drift Buggy

Can a pedal buggy be fun over rough ground for adults as well as kids?’ The purpose of this project is to fill a void in the current market for an adult pedal buggy for use on a campsite, activity centre or on holiday. The Drift Buggy is an all-terrain, pedal driven vehicle with a rear steer axle. The bespoke nature of the rear steer buggy gives the impression of ‘drift’ when the user corners, hence the name. The purpose of this design is to maximise the fun factor for the user. Targeted at an adult market to join in with their children or pedal through the countryside, the Drift Buggy is an alternative way for adults to get around and enjoy themselves in the process.

Major Project

Designed for the Electric vehicle market, this adaptable mode 2 – single and 3 phase charging cable enables customers to charge their vehicle at any European road side charging point. While producing an innovative solution to charge at a 2 pin and 3 pin 10 amp up to a 7 pin 32 amp road side power socket, this adaptable cabling device reduces the number of cables that are currently carried within the boot compartment of the vehicle. With an integrated inline control unit, this adaptable charging cable meets EU regulations for charging at home through the safe regulation of electrical currents. The adaptable cable design consists of three sections: (1)The interchanging power cable; (2) the cable drum containing the incline control module and display lights; (3) the power outlet cable to the vehicle. All the cables are interchangeable with male and female electromagnetic connectors ensuring the safe connection from the plug to the vehicle without the risk of equipment theft. This easy to maintain, retractable and adaptable electric vehicle charger, is the market leader in charging future green electric vehicles for everyday use.

The Growth of snowboarding as a sport has had a huge effect on board production and manufacture, the popularity of the sport, and too the level of skill that today’s pros are competing at. The aim of this project was to make snowboarding less exclusive, by designing a new low cost urban board for use within the city environment that utilises new innovative technology and design features so that more people have the opportunity to experience and enjoy the sport. To reduce cost whilst maintaining the same ride-ability and features of conventional snowboards and reducing the overall size of the board make it more suitable for urban use, easier to transport, and suitable for all ages and gender. Durability is one of the key issues with regards to urban riding as boards take a lot of punishment that they are not designed for. With this in mind the urban board utilises new materials and technology to ensure the durability and sustainability of the board, whilst not compromising its features and ride characteristics.

The design aims to inform people of the energy required to charge a common handheld device, and raise awareness of domestic energy use, while also providing a convenient product for commuter and recreational cyclists to charge their electronic devices while cycling.

Smart Compost Bin

Designed with the user in mind, the Smart Compost Bin serves a dual-purpose. Not only an innovative and augmented compost bin, the product also affords the user with a source of sustainable and renewable energy for use within greenhouses. As decomposition takes place within traditional compost heaps, the temperature can rise to 60-75 °C. Generally, this heat energy is wasted by keen gardeners and industrial haughty culturists alike. Using expensive heaters to provide frost protection, and ensure seedling growth, within greenhouses is no longer necessary as the Smart Compost Bin affords traditional compositing facilities and a free energy source, through the dissemination of heat generated via vents in the product, which is located inside the greenhouse. To maximise heat production, the product is manufactured out of Thuja Plicata (Western Red Cedar) and houses a polyethylene rotational moulded tub (insulated with expanded polystyrene) that holds the decomposing matter, filled from outside the greenhouse to ensure no mess inside. Additionally, any liquid that leeches away as the decomposition process takes place is collected and can be used as a nutritious liquid feed. As a product, the Smart Compost Bin is the market’s inaugural dual-purpose solution, setting the standard for sustainable, modern living.
